The Virtual Private Server
Software Library
pg. 15
The support staff has scoured the Internet to
assemble a library of useful CGI programs for our customers. We’ve modified most
of them to make them easy to install and use on your Virtual Private Server.
Although we are happy to provide technical support for the programs listed in
this chapter, we can’t possibly offer support for every CGI program that exists
on the Internet. Our technical support is therefore limited to the CGI programs
listed in this chapter, as well as any future additions to our CGI library.
vinstall - The Virtual Package Manager
All of the programs in the Virtual Private Server CGI library can be easily installed
using the Package Manager. The Package Manager keeps track of all the CGI
programs you install from our library, and helps you keep up to date with the
latest versions. You can access the Package Manager by typing the vinstall
command at the command prompt.
If you already know the name of the program you wish to install, simply type
vinstall followed by the name of the program. The Virtual Private Server Package Manager
will automatically install the program for you.
If you are unsure of the name of the program you
wish to install, or if you simply want to see which programs are available in
our CGI library, type vinstall by itself to view a menu of available programs.
Example: Install a program through the Virtual Private
Servers Package Manager menu interface.
Telnet to your Virtual Private Server and type the following at the command prompt:
vinstall Enter
A screen similar to the following appears:

All of the programs in the Virtual Private Servers CGI
library are arranged into categories. You can browse the contents of a specific
category by typing the number that comes before it in the category listing.
For example, take a look at the programs in the
“utilities” category. Press 5, Enter and you should see a screen similar to the
following:

Note that there are several programs available in
the “utilities” category. You can install any of them by entering the number
given for the program in the listing.
As an example, try re-installing the VAdmin
program (VAdmin was installed on your Virtual Private Server when it was initially set
up). Press the number shown for vadmin and then Enter. Type ‘y’ at the prompts
to re-install VAdmin. Once the installation is complete, the “utilities” menu
reappears and your screen should look like the following:

If you see something similar to the above screen,
you’ve successfully installed this program from the Virtual Private Server CGI library.
You can now press Enter to return to the main menu, then Enter again to exit the
Package Manager and return to your command prompt.
The Technical Support team will be happy to
assist you with any of the programs included in our library, but cannot offer
assistance for programs outside of our library. Because we are constantly adding
to and improving our Software Library, we encourage you to check the above URL
periodically for updates.
