Q: How
can I remove the FrontPage extensions from my Virtual Private Server?
A: To remove the FrontPage extensions from
your Virtual Private Server, Telnet to your Virtual Private Server and type the following at the
command prompt:
% fpnuke
This command removes the FrontPage core extension files, as well as all of the
FrontPage configuration directories (the "_" directories). Note that once you
remove the FrontPage extensions, any pages on your site that use FrontPage
components will no longer function.
Q: I
am having problems with feedback forms using FrontPage. Do you have a list
of known bug fixes?
A: RSH Web Services technical support has
found several fixes for problems with feedback forms:
1) The error message reads : Your FrontPage Server Extensions have not been
configured to send e-mail. Please direct your system administrator or Internet
service provider to follow the instructions at "Setting Up Your E-mail
Transport" in the SERKenuadmin.htm file on the FrontPage CD-ROM.
2) Solution: Anytime this issue comes up, add the following to:
~/usr/local/frontpage/currentversion/frontpage.cnf
SendmailCommand:/bin/sendmail %r
This will solve the problem.
Q: I
attempted to publish a simple FrontPage subweb to my server but FrontPage
came back with the following error. "Server error: FrontPage Security
Violation". What can I do to correct this?
A: Due to limitations of the FrontPage
extensions in the UNIX environment, if you wish to publish via FrontPage, you
must do so either by using the FTP protocol or by creating the page while
connected “on-line” and saving the page in the FrontPage Editor, rather then
publishing a page created on your local Web to your Virtual Private Server. If you
upload a FrontPage Web via the FTP method, the FrontPage extensions will be
bypassed, however, and your FrontPage components will not function correctly.
You can side-step this problem by first uploading your FrontPage Web via FTP and
then connecting to the FrontPage Web online via the FrontPage explorer and
“save” the files, which will then republish the pages and include any necessary
FrontPage extension settings that are needed.
Q: I
get an error message when I save a page using FrontPage.
A: On UNIX servers, the following errors
occur when you save the page:
"The server could not complete your request. Contact your Internet service
provider or web server administrator to make sure the server has the FrontPage
Server Extensions installed. For more specific information, click Details."
Details shows:
500 Internal Server Error
The UNIX server reports the following in its error log:
Premature end of script headers:
/usr/local/frontpage/currentversion/apache-fp/_vti_bin/fpexe
Cause
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in FrontPage for Windows.
This problem occurs when you have includes within your shared borders. FrontPage
will occasionally double-parse a document, transferring information between the
first and second parse. Include bots must identify their parent document, but
because shared borders act as temporary parent documents, the communication may
fail between parses.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, delete the page in the Web that has the shared
border with the include in either the Table of Contents or Form with Validation,
and then recalculate hyperlinks.
You can put the Table of Contents or Form with Validation on a page that does
not have a shared border with an include in it or remove the include from the
shared borders.
Q: How
much disk space does an installation of the FrontPage extensions use on a
Virtual Private Server?
A: If a user decides to install the
FrontPage extensions from Microsoft, they will take up 11.5MB of disk space.
Q: Will
Web sites created with FrontPage 2000 run on Web servers running the
FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions?
A: Yes, basic Web sites created with
FrontPage 2000 will run without problems on FrontPage 2002 extended Webs.

A: The Server Extensions for the Microsoft
FrontPage Web site creation and management tool are a set of server-side
applications that do the following:
1) Allow multiple users simultaneously collaborate on the same Web site
2) Allow users to author using FrontPage directly against a Web server
3) Enable Microsoft Office applications to save directly to a Web server
Let users include the following components in FrontPage on their sites: forms
handler component, discussion component, full text search component and hit
counter component
